At Lucky Goat, education is one of our top priorities. Whether you’re a café looking to train a fresh assortment of fellows, or you’re a capable coffee connoisseur looking to improve your morning brew, coffee education is imperative. It’s often the difference between a bitter cup of undifferentiated sludge, and the cup that melts away your daily worries while you stare out of the window. At the end of the day, it certainly is just coffee, but it’s our coffee, and we want to do a darn good job. We hope you do to! Allow us to clarify.

Coffee itself is inherently a heterogeneous task to surmount. It’s both a knowledge and a skill, covering an array of scientific topics related to biology, chemistry, and geography, while pulling from vast layers of culture, history, and tradition. It can be a difficult topic to cover, especially on your own. Just for that reason, we offer an assortment of coffee classes at our Capital Circle café! The other reason is because Traylor teaches them.

These classes can cover topics ranging from basic brewing methodology, to coffee farming, to exothermic reactions and extraction theory! Our goal at Lucky Goat is to meet you where you are. So, if you’re looking to gain the knowledge to identify coffee tasting notes on your own, or you’re just looking to have the best cold brew on the block, we hope that you can trust us as that resource (just as long as your cold brew isn’t better than ours). For a long time now, our coffee community has met us where we are, and we hope we can do the same for you, whatever your needs or passions might be.

In the past, we’ve given tours of our facility, held discussions related to roasting, and exchanged espresso recipes for latté art strategies. Our classes don’t contain a rubric or a set list of facts. They’re free form, light hearted, and only related to the topics you’re interested in. If no specification is given, we offer a tour, a private tasting of five different single origins, and a conversation on the plant-to-cup story. However, if you just want to learn how an old-timey espresso machine works or what a refractometer is, we’ll refrain from calling you a nerd and get to talking! If this is something you, your friends, or your café is interested in, reach out to Traylor! We’re more than happy to schedule times that suite you and your lifestyle, just bring us your ears and empty mugs!

As Ever,

Lucky Goat
